The Craft Conservatory is a virtual fine arts apprenticeship for the writers of the future.

Each year, we select a maximum of ten students worldwide whose distinctive voices merit careful and curated attention.

DISCIPLINES

The Art of the Poem

Hone your unique approach to imagery, tone, syntax, and more in order to expertly fill your "imaginary gardens with real toads" (as Modernist poet Marianne Moore would say.)

The Art of the Short Story

Develop a distinctive literary style through intensive practice and study of how to create complex characters, effective dialogue, subtext, and theory-informed approaches to world-building.

The Art of the Essay

How does one make compelling and imaginative art about things that have actually happened? Apprentices will expand their notions of what it means to  exhume memory and experience onto the page.

The Art of Experiment

All art is experiment, and this discipline highlights that.Through a survey of cross-genre writing and experimental techniques, apprentices will harness cutting edge tools to write the innovative work of the 21st century.

OUR COURSES

Apprentices begin our rigorous yearlong program with potential and graduate one year later with demonstrable giftedness.

Personalized mentorship, seasonal colloquiums, capstone projects, and alumni archive-building make this transformation possible.
